2008 Competition: Issues
Animal Welfare - The Humane Society of the United States
The HSUS is the nation's largest animal protection organization. Although we work to protect all animals, and cover a vast array of issues affecting animals, for the FYI competition we are spotlighting the following major campaigns and programs which affect great numbers of animals in the most significant ways:
- Factory Farming
- Animal Cruelty/Animal Fighting
- Hunting
- Fur
- Canadian Seal Hunt
- Puppy Mills
- Pets for Life
All of these issues have something in common — each can be influenced by the actions of individuals.
And each individual's actions can be influenced by filmmakers, like you.
The HSUS, and ACE (Animal Content in Entertainment), a program of The HSUS' Hollywood Office, invite you to use your talent to create an FYI issue that will change the lives of animals.
In addition to the information on the web pages above, you'll find additional topic ideas on the ACE website. You can also sign up to join our on-line community and get the latest news and videos for information and inspiration.
We will select a single film from among all entrants to the Film Your Issue 2008 competition for the joint FYI-HSUS Award. That film will be posted on The HSUS site, and the filmmaker, if between 18 and 24, will be awarded a two-week internship working on video projects at the Hollywood Office of The HSUS. The HSUS reserves the right to decline to offer an award for the 2008 round in the event that a suitable entry is not found among the submissions.
